Picking the right Title for your website
Picking the right title for your domain name can be tricky. Why? Because the title means alot to the search engines.
You want to be informative but still want good ranking.
You should keep you title as short and precise as possible. You title should always represent the content of the text on the current page.
Lets say that you sell cars in the New York area.
You could have a title saying "Welcome to MYCARSITE.com We sell cars in the New York area and downtown manhattan" That would be very stupid. Instead inform the customers in the text on the page itself instead of the title. But also remember that the title is what google and other search engines represents in their search resulst so this needs to be clear and attractive so that users/customers want to click your link
Lets try the title like this "Used Cars | New York" now that is precise and it shows all the user/customer needs to know. You say that you sell used cars and in New York.. Never do it like this "Used Cars in New York" Dont use in/or/and in these titles, its a waste of space and doesnt do any good. Allways remember to keep your title as short as possible, and remember the first word in a title tag is what matters the most
Now what is MOST important is that your main page "the first page of your website" is the most important page of your entire site. This is usually what will rank best on the search engines so therefore the content of your "main" page should have a little "taste" of all you have on your site. If you only sell Used Cars in Manhattan, it should be "Used Cars | Manhattan" or "Used Cars | Manhattan, New York" But remember that the words need to be included in your text on the page aswell, preferrer in header tags, b tags and strong tags
